The Indiana University Little 500 is the largest and most well
known collegiate bicycle race in the United States. Over its
55+ years running, the race has raised millions of dollars for
student scholarships throughout the IU community. There
have been numerous movies, books, and articles written
about the importance of this great event. But none of this
would have ever happened without an ATΩ brother, Howdy
Wilcox.
Howdy Wilcox came up with the idea of the Little 500 in 1951
while watching students race their bicycles around the
campus dorms. The ATΩ cycling team has been involved with
the race ever since, and has been quite successful too. We
have won the race several times, with the most recent win in
2006. ATΩ has also produced numerous Little 500 hall of
fame riders as well as holding multiple track records. After
the 2008 season, we are the current reigning Fraternity
Champions while finishing 3rd place, only utilizing three
riders in the race due to an injury.
Our success is rooted from very committed coaching, hard
working riders, and a supportive alumni group. It is
imperative to us that our riders understand the ATΩ tradition of
success built through hard work, sacrifice, and dedication.
Without these qualities, the ATΩ legacy could not be passed
down from class to class. ATΩ’s continued success relies
not only on recruiting committed talent, but through strong
support from our Alumni brothers. Continued support and
guidance through tradition with allow the ATΩ team to prosper
and ensure our dominance over the years to come.
